Discover your Squarespace Sitemap
Squarespace is a great tool for building your website, but did you know that it also comes with a built-in feature that's super useful for SEO?
It's called the Sitemap, and it's a way to let search engines like Google know about all of your site's pages—even if you don't have those pages linked together in any way. You can use the Squarespace Sitemap tool to generate a sitemap for your site, which you can then submit to Google Search Console and other search engines.
The following sections will help you understand what's included in a sitemap.xml file, how to find it, and how to submit it:
What Is a Sitemap?
A sitemap is a list of all the pages on your website. When you create a sitemap, it helps search engines (like Google, Bing and Yahoo!) find and index your pages quickly so that users can find them easily.
It also allows you to keep track of what's on each page — when was it last updated, who made the edits and how often does it need updating? It's especially helpful if you have hundreds or thousands of pages!
How to Find Your Sitemap.xml File
Squarespace automatically generates an SEO-friendly XML sitemap for your website.
You can check your Squarespace sitemap by visiting:
Note, Squarespace sitemaps are not editable. For most Squarespace site owners, not being able to directly edit their sitemap is of no concern because they’d rather not update the XML file.
How to Submit Your Sitemap.xml File to Google Search Console
To submit your sitemap.xml file, you'll need to use the Google Search Console. To access it:
Go to https://www.google.com/search-console/home
Next, click on Sitemaps in the left menu and then click Add / Test Sitemap:
Finally, upload your sitemap.xml by pasting its URL if it's online
That's it! You've now learned how to find and submit your Squarespace sitemap file. If you have any questions about this process or are looking for additional help, please feel free to reach out.
